you dont need an access panel as the driver is fitted from the front either face in or magnet in, i have just finnished my second cabinet and for the amount of cutting im glad i had the mdf supplier to cut it all for me, it was cut on a cnc saw and was perfect, i just need to decide whether to use jbl2225 or 2226 as i have both , some more picks of build. cheers Greg

Thank you Greg I'm going to get the stuff cut. any reason you chose MDF rather than Ply in which case getting it cut is definatly a plus point I hate the stuff hahahaCheers Dave.

will the extra bits still come from 1 sheet of 8x4?2_ To line/damp the inside of the cab?

The single extra panel required will not fit out of a single sheet anymore. The choice for the Standard or Extended version is driver dependant.

Almost all of my diy constructions for <100 Hz do not contain dampening. Almost all of my commercial builds do. My diy builds for typical use of > 100 Hz do contain dampening material.

@Greg: Both the JBL2225 (copper winding material) and 2226 (alu winding material) will work equally well based upon Fs, Qts and Vas being almost identical. The 2226 has larger gap depth and voice coil winding depth, resulting in a larger Xmax. Also the Xmech of the 2226 is almost twice as large as the 2225, easily tipping the favor to the 2226.

I can cut in a straight line

That means you're half way to the finish. Do you know what a t-nut is?

Best regards

Cubo

@dave i chose the mdf as a cheap alternative to birch ply, here in australia mdf is about $30 a sheet and the birch is about $140 a sheet. also mdf is quite good acousticly, just a bit heavy and not as robust as ply.
@cubo good point you make in regard to xmax/ xmech with 2226.

thanks Greg

Hello Cubo and sorry for my English (I'm french!)

I have two speakers Eminence Kappa-15LFA and I want to know what box you have to use for my speakers: The Cubo 15 or Cubo 15 extended? What is the difference between the two?

I will use it to stream all types of music.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Cordially.

I have to say, since building the Cubo's, Ive gotten tons of use from them! They were a great addition to my game room... Here's a pic I found from about a month ago just to illistrate their usefulness!

Seriously though, I have a high school dance coming up. It will be the first time they have left my house. I can't wait to hear them in a real dance setting. My wife is a teacher and they always wrangle her into DJing these things smiley4

Nice wife, ehh photo.

These are the (preliminary) results of the two extensions tested. The Horn Extension is 75 cm deep x 75 cm wide x 62 cm high (external) for a single Cubo 15 Standard (meaning you could get the two largest panels for a Cubo 215 out of a sheet of 153 x 153 cm).
Consequently the Cubo 15 Standard was placed 75 cm back when measured with the Horn Extension in front of it (meaning the results should be relatively better at larger distances).

The Home Extension is basically a wooden EQ that attenuates sub frequencies less then higher bass frequencies (up till crossover). The measurements show that I'll likely be able to improve the results, to get a decent 31.5 Hz output at reduced SPL. Listening tests were positive.
It's ment for people that already have a Cubo at home or in their car and like to get a bit lower bass. I have no reason to think it will not work on other Cubo's (12, 18, Sub/21) as well. Besides it's very small and really simple to implement.

Best regards

Cubo

The Horn Extension was merely measured to re-assure that an horn extension in front of a Cubo will gain free dB's.
The Low Extension will be released when optimised. Photo's for the latter will be a laugh.

Best regards Cubo
