Simple Reflex Jobby

Just finished doing some work on them so thought I would take some pics. Used with a bridged XTi4000 per side on the twin 15"s and a PLX3602 on the 12" + XTi1000 on the comps.
X-over at 100hz and 1000hz. -3db at 40 hz in room.

They look decent, well done. Are those subs sealed or ported at the rear?

Look more like 18s and 12s tbh too, must be the photo angle.

Ported at the rear, single 150mm vent on driver centerline. My 18" boxes are exactly the same width but 50mm deeper and 200mm higher. Will do photo when I next drag them out to be used.
Using these tomorrow* with my newly acquired BBE DS26 LMS to see how it performs.
Should be fun!!!

Whole Stack weighs 67Kg and a very simple 1 man lift.

I have used the bass bins before but it is the first time out for the 12" buggers, they are replacing my twin 12" Volts + DE250's so they have a tough act to follow.

I've read quite a few posts by Tom Danley that give the impression that he uses BMS comp drivers in the Unity (or one of the versions) due to the exhibition of a circular wavefront at higher frequencies.

Any truth in this?

Like any comp driver the dispersion is mainly a characteristic of the waveguide used. I would imagine that the main reasons he uses them is that he likes the sound and generally they perform well at pretty low frequencies.

In the mid-tops above the 1" comp is perfectly happy to be crossed at 1k and still easily keeps up with the rest of the system.

If you ever get a chance to listen to any of the BMS comps make sure that they are well run in. I find that they need a good 20 hrs or more use before they loose a tiny bit of edginess.

After that they sound as good (if not better) than any other moderately priced comp that I have heard..
