Help identifying this sub, need 15" driver recommendations

Warning: I'm a bit of a noob, learning as much as I can. Thanks for your time in advance!

I could use some help identifying this thing. It's a 15" sub in a vented enclosure. There is a name plate with "B52" on it and a space on the back where it seems an amp would have gone.

As far as I can tell, it's part of a Matrix 1000 kit. This thing (without the two 2 way speakers):



The speaker is blown from what I can tell. Reads 2 ohms on the meter and when I send audio to it, it crackles and generally sounds terrible. I've tried two amps and even sending just a sine wave. I went through all that because the speaker seems to move freely and doesn't rub.

I found a manual online that says the speaker is supposed to be 8ohms, 400watt. There are no markings on the magnet or basket.

I only paid $25 for it and would love to add a sub to our set up.

I have a Crown XLS802. We play indie hip hop and I'd like to mic the kick drum. It would be through a gate, compressor, and eq and I'd like to shoot for 55-57 hz. We may also reinforce the bass guitar by running a line direct to the mixer and sending anything below where the bassist's cab goes to the sub as well.

The enclosure measures 22"x22"19" (approx inside dimensions, didn't take in to account handle recesses) for 5.32 cubic feet.

Hard to tell from the picture above, but on the left is a full length rectangular port that is about 6" deep, then opens up. There is some sort of white fiber-glass-but-not 1" thick padding inside.

What driver would you guys recommend? Is it possible to get a nice kick drum thump out of such a small box?

If its part of a B52 matrix system, it did have a 3 channel amp on the back of the sub. The amp ran the sub with a built in crossover and then had outputs to run left and right to the mid tops. You already know what it is, so it should be easy to get a speaker for it if you think that's the problem.

I'm looking to upgrade what's in there. For a while, I had been planning on building my own enclosure and started reading up on proper cabinet design (was considering tapped horn fwiw). While reading around the forums I noticed there were a few different makes/models that kept coming up for different designs as the "go-to" driver. Is this a ported enclosure? If so, what would you guys recommend go in there? I'm assuming the stock B52 driver is sort of a middle of road "meh" kind of affair.

Clarification: If possible, I'd like to use an 800w 4 ohm driver or 500w 8ohm.

You could be lucky and get a speaker that works, but not to the max, because the cab is already tuned to specific speaker. B52 gear is American isn't it? They could have used Eminence speakers. I've installed the B52 disco console but that is my only dealings with the brand.
