ok, i am sticking a 1.5" CD on top of our system next week at a festival, to provide some extra headroom on the HF as i am concerned i may have too much midrange relatively speaking.
the existing CD's are 2" B&C DE85's and the 1.5" is a BMS 4555. all 8ohm
they are the same power rating, and will be playing the same freq range. (1.7khz up)
i am not concerned about the fact they are different drivers, as they will be aimed at different areas of the crowd.
the horns are all the same dispersion, and length.
power:
i either take a link out off one of the midtops, (8core), and therefore one of the amp channels would be running 2x CD's and one will be running one.
the only thing about this method is equalling the levels will be tricky(er). but would probably be alright with some care. not ideal in my books, due to drop in power each driver receives with 4ohm loading. and sensitivities are ever so slightly different.
second option:
run off a different amp entirely (daisy chained), giving it it's own amp channel, therefore more control,could raise the HPF, and would give a more even sound. but messy to string up as would require new cable run.
