What type of box is this? was created by alfiedring

And what software is capable of simulating one? Im thinking it could be
a usefull design for a little box to take to the park, with the direct
radiating output letting me cross to a 1" comp and the bandpass output
giving a tiny bit of reasonably efficient rumble.

Cheers

Thats a very odd arrangement... that's what that is!

I imagine you could get some good, low tuning with it... but I have never heard / seen anything like that before...

I would have thought the only software that will model that is LEAP...

Build one and tell us how it goes!

you might have problems tuning the port venting to the outside, due to the greater group delay causing phasing problems with the front of the driver's output. worth a try though!

im not sure you will get lower or more low bass from what i would call compound loading though, and the middle chamber might loose some efficiency. you might be able to model this system like a car silencer!

Hmm series tuned. Ive seen similar ones with three ports that give you two tuning frequencies. diysubwoofers.org shows a couple.

There's a book on speaker design that covers this type of cabinet in some detail. Maplin used to have it, maybe they still do. Can't remember the name.

I'm not sure of the benefits except that 2 resonances could give more gain at the bottom end, so it might be suitable for a driver with a lower Qts than regular reflex. But it would be harder to ensure driver and port output are in phase at the frequencies where they need to be in phase.

LSP CAD can simulate this type of enclosure.
