Joking aside, what is the reason that old plots of scoops dont show the 100hz or so dip, new plots do? I really dont get this, it the same in the Emmi book, the dip isn't there.

Couldn't quote Concorde, because even though it's newer, it's nowhere near as fast, or or anywhere near same max altitude.. smiley23

You have to take some of these sims/plots with pinch of salt.. Only way you'll really know what cab sounds like is from experience of listening to similiar cabs. Also, amp that has uber output stage and damping/control also changes driver/cab sound.

Not to mention uber bracing/decent timber.

Have personally experimented with 1850 scoops and dampening, and HR results were out the window.

After 100's of sims of High BL/Low BL 18s in various scoops, I concluded high bl drivers like V18-1000, Tmax 1200, 1850 for peaky sub, but sacrifice is dip 50-100. And smooth musical response from 45hz upwards from mid bl drivers like Fane 18XB, V18-1200, Tmax 1000, Volt, Bline 800.

With strategically placed damping, I can run 1850/V18-1000 scoop 38-100hz, without nasty 80hz peak. smiley14

Not sure, personally never run scoop above 100hz.

Regarding the "dip". Many years ago I came to the conclusion that the dip due to cancellation between the direct radiating speaker and the rear horn gave the cab its performance. As a lot of us know, 100-125hz is where a lot of speakers peak in terms of efficiency, which means it's at its loudest at this point. Due to masking effects any bass cab that has this prominent feature, will suffer in the low end, not because the bass isn't there, it's because the upper frequencies are louder. So, as with normal bass cabs I always took these frequencies down, so the bass was always deeper.
On a Scoop bin, this is a natural occurrence. On the RX18 and the S118, the dip is just after 100hz. So I would also tend to pull down the 100hz just a tad in addition.
