not a total waste of time, you could polish the inside panel of the alloy so that the vain drivers could look at themselves

infact it would look like it was loaded with hundreds of 12's

Anyone got any ply?

I always thought those panels touched the lab driver and the heat from magnet went into the panel.

Wayne Parnham made an interesting point....that by the time the air arount the magnet is 'too hot', the area where it's going to make a big impact, the voicecoil, will be WAY too hot, hence why he recommended the plug that goes inside the hole in the magnet.

Seems to make sense to me. Metal is a good conductor of heat, air isn't.

I think the Aluminium looks cool .
You can laser engrave your firm's name on it, or some crazy pattern.

Now for business:

Tom and Wayne duking it out on PSW (cooling plugs, push-pull and the 12pi):

There still is a bit of controversy over the cooling plugs.

Have spoken to guys on SP, who have built ply versions of AB36/SL36, and
loaded with PD1850/PD186, they blow away
1850/186horns for sub 40-90hz, usable in pairs in doors, and are not far off WSXtra performance outside.

Mykey, you need to keep up with the times mate. Obviously, transplanting modern superior drivers in older designs, yields performance gains, "if", you match T/S of new driver to old cab. You know that.

Lots of the folded horns we see today are just cut down versions of SL36/AB36.

Lev, here's a quick one-section sim of the 1850 with V18-1000 courtesy
of klippen (last thing I can do at the station before going home...).
If bitzo would then run the same driver through the CV bins, we would
be able to compare. Not suggesting anything of course, usual
disclaimer.

x1

x4 series parallel - note that with 4 in parallel the sensitivity goes
up in the sim and with series it is lowered, this is a midpoint. Curve
does not change. Good day.

Nice plots Deadbeat. Screenshot of parameters would be nice too!. I could then compare and see where I'm going wrong?. Enlighten me as to the reference to 'Klippen'.

Also, bitzo has made a big thread which I've just found that details all sorts of hornresp parameters.

Can't get a screen to you because the computer is inaccessible atm, the links should be enough for you i think.

thanks.

Thanks again Deadbeat, a lot ofpeoples' opinions become clearer after reading those threads. I think that I would agree with a SOME of the figures, but I can't agree with all of them for the above posted plots. Take a look at the tcw drawings I've just sent, and give me your opinion of the parameters.

Thanks again Deadbeat, I can now understand some peoples' opinions, and why I have a bit of difficulty in accepting some figures I've seen.Have a look at the TCW drawings I've just sent, and give me your take on the parameters used for the above posted plots by Kpippen. I'll bevery interested in your opinion. (Ican agree withSOME of the figures.)
