deck isolators

Hi Tony, just been reading about your deck isolators...were running a 30k+ reggae
rig here in Amsterdam, NL 12-16 scoops (loaded with Turbomax 1200's) etc
etc... no matter what we try we can get rid of that terrible bass
rumble/feedback on our Technics 1210 fitted with a new ortofon S-120...
please, can u help, do u still sell the deck isolators? or u have any
other advice? thanx in advance

ps obtained some of your beautiful boxes a while ago, however the mid/top
boxes were missing the horns, the CP22's are intact, the 10" PD's also...
but my question is what horns were in the boxes originally, as I want to
replace them...

I spent a long time dealing with errant 1210 turntables over the years....
Is this a pernament install in a club, or are are you mobile and setting up in different venues?
Firstly what floors have you got, Look for solid concrete it you can. If not use your feet to find what parts of the floor move and what is more solid, then mount your decks directly over the supporting joists to minimise movement.
Best solution is brick / block built columns, infilled, from solid foundations to the decks, preferably isolated from the surrounding booth, Cap the column with concrete or stone and place the deck on top.
Doing this in a club can totally transform the sound from the system, and also (in my experience) transforms the attendance levels!
I know that this is not an easy fix but believe me it is worth it for a club set up.
For mobile use I designed a metal frame table. This had 3 X 460mm square frame tops to take 450mm square concrete slabs. It also had 5 legs, 2 at the back, and 3 along the front. The 2 back legs and the centre front leg were triangulated for strength. All the legs had adjustable feet to allow for sloping floors and uneven surfaces. The whole thing was weighed down with high mass concrete or stone slabs.
Given a solid floor this worked very well in most situations, On a suspended floor, or your average wobbly stage it is very difficult to avoid feedback. This is when the deck isolator idea excells. My own version when everything else failed involved using a layer of bubblewrap under a 450mm paving slab. this allowed a bit of suspension. You could tell the difference as you would actually get more feedback when the DJ was touching the decks!
The more I think about the struggle that I had to get good sound, and the amount of heavy stone that I used to carry about, the more Tonys deck isolators look like a bargain!

Also to state the obvious:
Decks contact must be feet only, no sides touching in flightcases.

This is a very good point (that I had never thought about!).
In phase signals on a vinyl record are horizontal grooves. Out of phase signals are vertical.
Records almost invariably have mono bass signals.
If the bass is run in stereo, the vertical vibration of the tuntable due to feedback causes phased bass signals to be sent through to the speakers, this wastes bass power.
By pressing the mono button, the out of phase (vertical) signals cancel each other out.
The same effect can be achieved by summing the bass channel to mono.
Just as well I always run mono bass anyway! smiley20
