ASS SP2 cabs

Hi Tony, Just in case your PM box is full, I've posted here:

What drivers should be in your SP2's?

I am looking at some at the minute and want to check they are the correct ones.

am thinking of using 4 of these for my mid highs above a pair 2 x 15"
push pull subs for my PA. We are a function band playing weddings and
functions. Will these perform ok at sensible volumes for up to 300
people or so?

At the minute I use 2 x 12" plus 2" CD reflex cabs
for mid highs. Want to get a bit lighter weight and have a wider
dispersion pattern. I figure using 2 each side on double pole mounts
will perform well? Quite like a nexo PS10 set up?

I have a matrix xp1500 to power them, can they be ran active without any mods? I do have 3 way capability.

Hi Mate, The original drivers were B and C 250AMX, which is no longer available, and the DE16 compression driver, which has been replaced by the DE160, and just recently, the DE180.
If you were going just 2 way stand alone cab, it would have to be 10PS26 and 160/180. If it's active you have the chance to up the stakes and use the 10MD26 as a dedicated mid. If used solely as a mid hi cab you won't have to worry about retuning the cab for a different speaker. The components will run pretty flat, so mainly you will only have to do a balancing act between the mid and hi levels. If you want to go Neo, use the 10NDL64.

Tony, what sort of power would the SP2 safely handle in its original state?

The original SP2 Handled 250 watts RMS. This is when used as a stand alone cab. If you have bass cabs underneath and you go into the SP2 at around 150hz, you can put 4-500 watts into it. Thats what we found when the whole Spektra range was tested.

Whats the dispersion of the horn Tony?

Are they conical? Built in to the cab?

The original SP2 has a conical horn built in , but the idea of this was not to give it any specific dispersion. Once again because of good 'ol defraction, it was done to give the widest dispersion possible whilst loading up the diaphragm a little. I had assumed that anyone with an SP2 would be using it in a small system in small places, and with only one cab a side would need it to be as wide as possible.

Would it be possible to retro fit CD Horns to the cab?

I also have the chance of some of the 12" versions, do you think these would suit my needs better?
