DIFFERENCE IN JBL 2445 AND 2446 COMPS was created by luton_soundman
How much difference is there between the 2446 and the 2445? ideally after answers from people that have used both. Cheers

The difference between the JBL2445 and 2446 Comps is signifficant IMHO as well as some of my friends also agree.
The price difference between the two secondhand is not that great down here in Australia.
The 2446 is noticeably smoother, I was going to change my drivers over and which
I'm still thinking of doing or pay more for the 2450 which is a lot lighter than my
2441 with 2445 diaphrams and passive filters that sweeten them up. I'll still keep the 2380 horns though.
Technically new phase plug design with a strenghtend ribbed diaphram to minamize resonances in the driver.

It was discovered that the surround on the 2445 was causing some cancelation at certain frequencies, so a new shape for the suspension was designed to counteract the problem. You will find that the diaphragms are the same, but have different patterns formed in the suspension. At this point, the 45 became the 46.

If your talking about the diamond suround the 2441 which was Aluminum had it first. and then 2445 & 2446.
It was also introduced for the 2425 & 2426 1inch diaphram as well . The 2446, 2447, 2450 and 2451 diaphram
also had stiffening ribs and the drivers had a new phase plug. Jbl said that the new ribbed Diaphram
wasn't interchangeable with 2440, 2441, and 2445. But I'm going to give it a go it might improve things,
but by how much? Also there's the difference in the phase plug.
