q7 "like" design was created by el_dj
hello all..

been toying with the idea to make a small midtop in the "q7" size

planing on using 2 pcs of deltalite 2510 and a bms 1" or 1,4" driver.. and 60*40 dispersion horn

but dont know what would be the best solution...

putting them in an angle like the q7.. or invert it with the high driver in the center...

i want the solution to be the one where "colouration" of the 10" will be minimum..

the crossover will be between 1 - 1,5 khz.. and a highpass at 120-140

im thinking the best solution will be build both, setup smart and measure..

im not thinking to much in "horn" mode.. because this is not the goal.. just cleanest response..

what do you think..?

any distortion, cancellation, dispersion issues i should worry about?

best regards

Daniel Jensen

sorry

should have been more clear

D&B Audio Q7

www.dbaudio.com/en/systems/q-series/q7/

it uses 2 pcs 10" inch and 1 pcs 1,4 inch on a 70 * 40 dispersion horn..

the horn is located in the center and the 2 10" are the angled in to the cabinet...

the opposite of the 12" on this plan this plan

hornplans.free.fr/4pro.html

and they claim that dispersion is controlled down to 400 hz

so what will be my best solution..?? :)

thanks for you time

To revive an old thread for the sake of anyone else considering this, the q7 is designed like it is for various purposes.

The two drivers act as a kind of dipole, it gives better dispersion control/off-axis response control. This works by there being a half wavelength cancellation at 90deg off axis. This is only effective over one octave around the fundamental cancellation, above that the huge tweeter wave guide keeps the off axis response consistent. Another cleaver thing is the handles sort of act as phase guides to reduce coloration I suppose.

The whole point of having a good control of dispersion as well as having a similar response off axis to on axis is to reduce the amount of sound being put into room reverb, and having the sound that is be as similar to what the listener hears line of sight as not to muddy up the sound.

Hope I have explained my self alright, hope this helps :)
