Cubo Kick is a midbass bin to enforce the Cubo series or any other sub bass cabinet in the kick bass region. Like all Cubo models, Cubo Kick is designed to offer maximum performance when used in a stand-alone operation.
Cubo Kick 15 is the largest at 62 x 62 x 62 cm (H x W x D), aimed at 80 - 200 Hz, it has the most output in the 120 Hz area, for that well known "pressure on the chest kinda feeling". Not only do the frontal dimensions match with Cubo 15, 18, 21 and Sub, but the output is also high enough to use Cubo Kick in a 1:2 ratio (1.5:1 for live music). On top of two Cubo 15's it will raise the minimal height for the high mid top to 180 - 190 cm, bringing it well above the crowd ears. The cut sheet fits from a single sheet of 122 x 244 cm, 18 mm 13-ply Baltic birch is preferred. Originally designed around the 18Sound 15ND930. Other drivers that will work:
- Eminence Kappa Pro 15
- Faital Pro 15FH520
- Faital Pro 15FH500
The width of the cabinet can easily be modified, Cubo Kick 15 at 45 cm wide is best used in combination with 12" drivers to get the middle way, 100 - 220 Hz when used stand alone.
Cubo Kick 12 is the smallest cabinet at 45 x 45 x 50 cm (H x W x D). Initial measurements show it's capable of 110 - 250 Hz stand alone, a bit below 100 Hz when stacked in multiples. With the same frontal dimensions as Cubo 12, the output is high enough to use Cubo Kick in an 1:2 ratio (1.5:1 for live music). The cut sheet fits easily from a single sheet of 122 x 244 cm, 15 mm 11-ply Baltic birch is preferred. Designed around the 18Sound 12ND830. Other drivers that will work:
- Faital Pro 12FH520
- Faital Pro 12FH500
Development:
Over 10 prototypes were built to ensure a maximum output and clarity, in a minimum sized enclosure. Cubo Kick works with a wide variety of drivers, some of which are listed above, if unsure if your driver works, send me an e-mail at questionsaboutcubo at gmail dot com. Or visit the forum: Forum Topic Cubo Kick
It's advisable to use dampening material on all the walls in the rear chamber, except the baffle and without restricting air flow to the driver and reflex ports.

Following on from wigs' message;
Would the Eminence Delta 12 work in lieu of the Kappa 12?

Thanks

16 mm ply is theoretically at least 2 times stiffer than 12 mm ply, if you're unsure what to use, make the heavier cabinet! That being said 12 mm will work.
Thanks for all your work. I'm trying to fill in a gap in my system, my sub is 100Hz at -3db and 110Hz at -10db. I want to feel the kick, and my tops don't cut it. Due to space constraints, I'm looking to build a Cubo Kick 12.
1. The Eminence Kappa Pro 15 is recommended for the Kick 15, but is the Eminence Kappa Pro 12A suitable for the Kick 12? Parameters below, link at eminence.com/products/kappa_pro_12a - limited range of drivers available in New Zealand.

2. Realise that the Kick 12 is designed for 110Hz - 250Hz, but can it be tweaked to punch a bit lower, at 100Hz? Ideally I'd fill all the gap from 100Hz to 220Hz or so. Is blocking a port viable for the 12, as suggested in some other replies?
3. 15mm birch ply is hard to come by here in NZ, 16mm is standard or 12mm (which is far more cost effective). Aside from tweaking measurements to suit, would using 12mm ply instead of the 16mm affect sound characteristics and output?
Thank you, I appreciate your input and knowledge!
Not the beafiest driver though, you might wanna add plenty of dampening material in the rear chamber.
If you cross the fbt at 100 Hz, that means you also cross the kick at 100 Hz. For the best result experiment with the crossover frequnecy till it sounds right, typically between 80 - 100 Hz. The blow to the chest is indeed centered around 120 Hz.
Celestion doesn't have a picture with dimensions for the 15-FTR, so it's difficult to predict but usually the magnet doesn't touch the rear panel. If it does let me know by then as the problem is easily solved.
(Do you recommend a woofer, which fits into the speaker without creating problems of modifying the enclosure, which does not hit its magnet on the frame when closed, perhaps without spending a lot of money) I read that I should feel the blow to the chest from 120 Hz in then, right? so if fbt I put it at 100hz at how many hz should I put the football cube? What are the advantages at 45cm, and what disadvantages do I have at 45cm?can I add handles?, what if I want to add a built-in amplifier?
The 15LB100 is a good all round driver, it's geared a bit more towards bass than kick but they'll work in both Cubo 15 and Cubo Kick 15. In the latter for 80 - 200 Hz.is the the box Speaker 15LB100-8W from Thomann useable for this enclosure?
Hi Giuseppe,I would like to make a 15 cm football cube, I wanted to ask if it is possible to do the width of the cube is 45 cm.
Yes, you can make Cubo Kick 45 cm wide, leave the height, depth and everything else the same. I would cross it around 100 Hz to the fbt 115SA. Do you know what loudspeaker you want to use in Cubo Kick?
Best regards Cubo
is the the box Speaker 15LB100-8W from Thomann useable for this enclosure?
Greetings
After seeing your reply, I bought and fitted up the 18sound drivers this morning as I managed to pick them up for $500aud (vs $700+ to have the 2226's re-coned)... and with a party in 2 weeks I was keen to get them online.
They don't disappoint!
Great picture, goes in the yearbook!
Firstly, I want to thank you for your work and your commitment to helping all of us build our own rigs!
I built a couple of cubo kicks a year or two ago for obvious reasons (more kick!)... and they look so good, I modelled the rest of the rig's grills to match.
I live in Australia where the choice of drivers is limited and expensive, but ended up acquiring a pair of second hand JBL 2226's. While they have some effect, they're clearly worn out and are not doing the cabinet justice.
I am faced with the choice of re-coning them, or replacing them. To that end, I have found someone local selling a pair of 18sound 15w1200's in good condition (specs are attached).
Would these be suitable for cubo kicks, or am i better off having the 2226's refurbished?
Thanks in advance.
Now that we have events again I can say that I am very happy with these speakers and I would say the build was a success.
During this build, I recreated the drawing by Cubo in Librecad to figure out some dimensions I could not discern from the drawing and to decide on details like where to put terminal plates and mounting holes for the speaker or the rear wall.
Maybe this can also be helpful for some other people who are building Cubo Kick 15, so I decided to share these drawings.
The proposed locations dimensions should provide clearance for Adam Hall 87160 Terminal plates and 18 Sound 15ND930. For other drivers/terminal plates, your mileage may vary.

Recommended Driver: Kappalite-3015lf, Kappapro-15lf-2, kappa-15lf or drivers with EBP of 100 or higher; Fs (27-50 Hz), Qts (0.21 - 0.41), Vas (150 - 300 L) / (7.4 - 11.1 ft^3). Where EBP = Fs / Qts (strictly speaking it's Fs / Qes)
Cubo 15: Cubo is a multi purpose, stand alone bass bin that will equal or out run a single 18" BR*, of similar size, from ~ 40 Hz and up in terms of sensitivity. Utilising a non-expensive driver such as the Eminence 3015LF, Kappa 15LF and Kappa 15LF Pro** and a cut list from a single 18 mm*** sheet (244 x 122 cm) / (8' x 4') with a single angled cut, Cubo 15" realizes a cost effective, small and light weight enclosure following the KISS-principle.
Development: In 2007 the first prototype was build and tested. Cubo 15" is the 4th prototype in a line of hybrids aiming at the achievements as stated above. The measurement below shows the gain over the stated bass reflex (see * for details). Cubo 15 plans are also available in an Imperial version, plan available on request.
Versions: As a rule of thumb:
Qts x Vas > 120, Cubo Standard
Qts x Vas = 100 - 120, Cubo Extended or Standard
Qts x Vas < 100, Cubo Extended
Qts x Vas < 50; Cubo 15 Extra Extended
Magnet orientation:
The driver mounted with the magnet visible (the magnet in the horn) typicall gives the lowest bass response and slightly better cooling of the voice coil. Mount the driver with the magnet inside the chamber for most output around 60 - 80 Hz or the highest possible crossover frequency.

With a removable circular baffle for the 12" to fit the and seal the 15" box opening.
www.loudspeakerdatabase.com/Faital/12HP1030#4%CE%A9
you say they won't do?
the amp delivers 550watt, the cut is from 38hz to 120hz.
however in the diagram I may see that the cut is at 40hz 12db.
I'm ignorant of technical data! i have manufacturing experience with cnc machines, but i have always built cabinets and heads for guitar amps designed by others.
do you think maybe a bandpass like the turbosound tcx115b would be better, which as a frequency range is very similar to my sw540 sub?

the features of my sw540 sub are:

Max. Output power 550 watts continuous rms 850 max peak
Frequency Response 38Hz ÷ 120Hz ± 1dB

Stereo electronic crossover 24dB / octave Crossover frequency 120hz
I think the woofer is from B&C but you don't know the model! however i found some specifications of this woofer in the manual.
Nominal diameter 15 "
Frequency range 37 ÷ 2000Hz
Sensitivity 99db
Rated impedance 4 ohms
Net weight 8 kg
FS 37hz
RE 3.04 Ohms

Qts 0.34
Vas 0.1m3
ηo 3.17%
B.l 16.62 T / m
SD 0.085m2
Xmax ± 5.25mm
The 1508-8 SPS BWX for example, weighs 7.7 kg but it has a high-ish Qes (less magnet needed) and small Xmax (4.7 mm again less magnet needed), so those numbers add up.
The Kappa Pro 15LF, weighs 10 kg, has a medium Qes and Xmax, and a 3" voice coil instead of a 4" voice coil like the Black Widow has. Again those numbers add up.
The STX W.38.1200.8.MC, weighs 7.5 kg, (claims a large voice coil and Xmax, medium Qes) and the T/S-parameters suggest it would would be close in performance to the 15TBX100, however the 15TBX100 (also large voice coil and Xmax, medium Qes) weighs 12.3 kg.
So something is off, as I'm rather safe than sorry, I would exclude the STX drivers from the list.
1) Kappa Pro 15LF
2) Black Widow 1508-8 sps (or the Kappa 15LF, 9 kg but a steel chassis)
Cubo
I have used two "W.38.800.8.MC" from two different series and I think they are quite weak speakers, so I don't know if the "W-38-1200-8-MC" will be much better.
Currently, I have loaded 15TBX100 and the difference is big.
Can you judge which of these speakers is best for the cubo 15?
a) Kappa pro 15 lf2
b) Black Widow 1508-8 sps
c) STX W.38.1200.8.MC
Thank you in advance for your answer
That's a good driver for Cubo 15 Extended, only drawback is the short Xmax, therefor a 40 Hz high pass is advised.
It's 30 Hz vs 40 Hz. I''d go for Qts below ~0.4 and Xmax over 7 mm, if you elaborate your question, you'll get a more sophisticated answer
Unfortunately but I found two different datasheets:
1) www.bcspeakers.com/en/products/lf-driver/15-0/8/15ps100-8 ("new")
2) images.thomann.de/pics/prod/260670_datasheet.pdf ("old")
Please tell me if "both" speakers are good for Cubo? Which will be better?
--edit--
I ask because the "old" 15PS100 has EBP = 100Hz but the "new" has only 82hz. The recommended value for Cubo is 100 or higher.
The "old" has QTS = 0.31 but "new" has 0.43, where recommended is 0.21 - 0.41
The "old" has VAS = 152 but "new" has only 103, where recommended is 150-300
The "new" 15ps100 is suitable for cubo15?
Thank you
Cubo Sub / Cubo 21
The largest cabinet from the Cubo series stands upon the edge of portabilty; To big to be compact, to compact to be big.
Like it's predecessors Cubo 12, Cubo 15 and Cubo 18 it's a stand-alone bass bin. It will equal or out run an 18" reflex cabinet from 30 Hz and up in terms of sensitivty*. Like all Cubo-designs it excels on the KISS-principle, with a single angled cut and a cut list from 1 and a 1/2 sheets of 244 x 122 cm / 8' x 4'.
Development
Based on Cubo 15 and Cubo 18, Cubo Sub is the 3rd prototype in a series of cabinets aiming at good reproduction down to 30 Hz. Mount the driver with the magnet in the horn for best low frequency reproduction from 30 Hz up to 100 Hz. With the magnet in the chamber for maximum output from 35 Hz up to 110 Hz.
Versions
Cubo Sub is optimized for single 15"/ 18" drivers**, and single 21" drivers, nicknamed Cubo 21.
All 21" drivers will fit in the standard Cubo Sub but in that case care must be taken when pre-drilling the bolt pattern. Plans for Cubo 21 are available through e-mail (questionsaboutcubo at gmail dot com).
* Measurement against BR18a tuned to 37 Hz
** Due to reproducing sub frequencies 18" drivers with an Xmax of 7 mm or more are favoured. On average a 15" needs 1.5 times the excursion capabilities to produce the same output as an 18" driver or 2 times that of a 21" driver.

You can adjust the width to 660 mm, without any issues. I would set the high pass at 20 - 30 Hz (experiment a bit with frequency and slope untill it sounds just right), if you're going for maximum power/ output 30 Hz is better.
Also what hpf would i need on the cubo sub running a pd186 mk1 in it?>

It would be really nice if you new the T/S-parameters of the PD.but it never sounded that great due to the heavy cone I think
Now it's difficult to say whether you didn't like the driver, the cabinet or the incorporation into the rest of your system slash processing. If you know the T/S-parameters it's easy to compare them to the 21PW1400Fe and say if it's the same or completely different and if it attributed to your experience of the Cubo 21. To answer your question whether this is going to improve things for you without the T/S-parameters, we need to figure out what you didn't like about it exactly. What did (or didn't) you do to it, processing, amplifier power, what tops did you use (any delay on those), magnet inside the chamber, magnet inside the horn, etc. To me the 18LW1400 in Cubo Sub with the magnet inside the horn or inside the chamber sounded like two different cabinets, one for 'rumble' and the other one rather tight and loud.
It would also help if you have heard the PD's in another enclosure, anything that tells us if it's the driver, Cubo or system settings, or a combination of those.
Typically a 21" driver doesn't perform that much better than an 18" driver, in the same sized enclosure, it just has more potential. You need either a lot of power or quite a bit of EQ to get that potential (air displacement) to fruition. Someone in the Netherlands is building a custom version of it and probably going for the RCF LF21N551 or Lavoce SAN215.30, I assume with a small nuclear reactor to power the amplifiers because they can handle it and need that kind of power to really shine (beyond the scope of an 18" driver).
Best regards Cubo
I made a 21" version of the Cubo Sub a few years back now which was fitted with an old-shool Precision Devices driver that was rated 750W rms (ET211S) but it never sounded that great due to the heavy cone I think.
Can anyone shed any light on the following driver and whether it would be suitable for the CUBO SUB - I cannot find any recommeded TS parameters for drivers on the page, neither can I find a post of anyone else making the 21" version to my knowledge.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated - the driver is the Beyma 21PW1400Fe with the following specs:

Now, although I'm a big fan of 12V PA systems that drop down low, it isn't the most energy efficient. If output is more important or how long the battery lasts, two Cubo 12 (with reduced inner width) will have more output between 50 - 80 Hz. This is where the most energy in bass is located, it won't sound as low but add a lot of thump.
Cubo
do you think i could adjust the inner depth to about 30cm and put thi 10" driver in: www.lautsprechershop.de/pdf/mivoc/awm104.pdf ?
I've builded a tapped horn with this speaker and want to know if the extra wood & weight is really worth it, because i'm planing to build serveral of them for some 5ghz connected 12v bicycle systems.
